 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies From 1999 to 2001, she was the Acting Curator in the Ethnological Museum of Barcelona (Spain). From 2001 until
2008, she was a Lecturer at the University of Alicante (Spain). Since 2008 she is a Tenured Scientist at the
Institution Milà i Fontanals (IMF, Barcelona) of the Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas
(CSIC) where she is Vice director of Research (2015-). PhD in Cultural Anthropology. Her fieldwork has been in
Egypt, Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Spain, and multi-sited ethnography in Switzerland, England, the
Netherlands, Cameroon and South Africa. Since 1999, she has participated in 16 Spanish research programmes and
1 Consolider project, 3 directed by Aixelà regarding Arab and sub-Saharan migrants in Europe, Muslims,
Multiculturalism and Social Changes in Africa, and Colonialism and Postcoloniality in Europe-Africa (all from a
gender point of view). She has worked on some interdisciplinary research programmes. The last R+D project
directed by her (and finished in December 2014) was “Handling of cultural diversity and socio-political influence
of transnational migration in two former Spanish colonies: Equatorial Guinea and Morocco (HAR2011-22752). She is
the author and/or co-editor of 11 books and 68 articles in national and international journals, many indexed in
different types of quartile. She has taught courses in PhD and Masters programmes at different Spanish universities
(Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Cádiz, Autónoma de Madrid, among others) and has also been a visiting lecturer at
the SOAS in Great Britain (September 2002, July 2005) and Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Sociale – CNRS- EHESS,
France (July 2003). Aixelà belongs to the Scientific Board of some periodical publications and is a member of the
International Advisory Council of the World Conference for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES).
