Brief description of your activity focus Book Design / illustration
Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies I’m currently doing a PhD on Book Design. I’m specializing in the relationship between Illustration and the
picture books Design – trying to understand the illustrator visual thinking’s role on conveying new
narratives and paradigms.
My undergraduate degree (5 years) in Fine Arts - Painting, gave me visual literacy and knowledge about
techniques and History of Art to fully understand visual communication as a visual phenomena and
cultural expression. I’ve chosen to specialized in Drawing (in a 3years Master) to study the roots of Art
and Design disciplines.
I’m professionally working since graduation in the publishing industry as a illustrator and layout designer,
besides being a passion this has allowed me to attain the field experience needed to pass on to my
university students.
I’ve also worked in university research, doing the inventory of the Antique Drawing collection and
producing texts and academic data for publishing.
Areas of expertise:
Painting, Etching, Drawing, illustration.
History of Art, Sociology.
Conventional numbering and identification systems, working with databases.
Book design, layout, infographics and illustration.
Field knowledge on Picturebooks and Magazine publishing industry.
Native language: Portuguese.
Proficient in English, French (Erasmus) and Spanish.
Good computer skills for data base: Excel and Access and Image treatment: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash,
Indesign.
