The institute is specializing largely in three areas of research in media and communication. Firstly, media policy and industry regulation is at the core of research interest. Second, the production, distribution/circulation, and consumption of media culture/pop culture across national borders is second strand of research area of the institute. Thirdly, mobile and internet communication is the area of concentration. ICAT organizes professional and scholarly conferences and workshops on a irregular, but continuous basis.
